Self-Preservation, Melbourne

We stumbled across Self Preservation by accident- and eating there was the best decision of our visit to Melbourne.

Self Preservation is a cozy little wine bar that is a creative space, offering gallery space for jewellry and local art, as well as boasting a breakfast through dinner menu. Their wine list is extensive and their cheese and antipasto pairings are sublime.

Our waitress was attentive and very warm, and we were immediately put at ease with smooth music and dim lights.

We had three dishes:
1. Brandy infused baked camembert with grilled sourdough, pickled carrot and candied nut salad.
2. Housemade fettuccine with seared prawns, dill and garlic sauce.
3. Beetroot and goat’s cheese risotto with walnut and rocket.

The best food we’ve had all trip. It was a complex fusion of decadent and rich flavours. Excellent food, paired with a Pinot Noir 2010 and service. I’m so glad I came across this restaurant.
