Gontran was a happy coincidence for me. I needed a bathroom, and I needed an afternoon pick-me-up. The café has a sheek aesthetic with the sort of bakery smell that you learn to trust will mean a reliably excellent pastry. My chocolate almond croissant was perfectly buttery and flaky and my coffee was smoky and fullbodied. I regret I didn’t try anything savory because they all sat there in the window looking sublime.
